As you engage Arts and Sciences students on topics of career and professional success, one significant resource to help them navigate career decisions is our unique Career Communities model. This model features 10 industry-based communities so that students can explore how their discipline relates to industry-specific opportunities. Each community has an assigned career coach who brokers connections and brings great insight into industry trends and opportunities.
Students have the option to explore how their interests, values, and skills relate to career fields through taking college-sponsored Career Courses.
Our office has many Guides & Tips for students to use for their professional development and to aid their career readiness. Please integrate and use these documents as resources when working with students. Some specific examples you might find especially helpful include:

Did you know you can add a job board widget to your department’s website? This resource is available so students can easily access various professional opportunities that apply directly to their major! The widget will automatically populate with opportunities and positions from Handshake for quick and easy access for students to see what jobs and internships apply to their major.

The Arts and Sciences Graduate Student Success Grant seeks to enhance collaboration between Career Success and College of Arts and Sciences academic departments/centers to:
- Provide unique, innovative, and targeted graduate student support in the area of career and professional development
- Expose graduate students to varied non-academic career pathways that shape their personal and professional growth towards a meaningful and fulfilling life.
The Center for Career and Professional Success works in close collaboration with the departments and centers that comprise The Ohio State University’s College of Arts and Sciences to ensure that every student is prepared to design their lifetime of opportunity. The Arts and Sciences Undergraduate Student Success Grant seeks to expand collaboration between Career Success and academic departments/centers to provide targeted student support in either of the following areas:
- Access to training programs that support development of The Buckeye Advantage readiness competencies
- Exploration of career pathways linked to undergraduate degrees
- Expansion of experiential learning opportunities
- Address financial hurdles tied to participation in a required internship or integrated elective
- Engagement of alumni or industry professionals in career focused department events

Handshake is the access portal for Ohio State Arts and Sciences students and recent graduates to connect with employers and internship sites in the corporate, nonprofit, and government sectors that are interested in recruiting Ohio State students.

Contact the Arts and Sciences Center for Career and Professional Success to request a presentation related to career success for your undergraduate students. One of our talented and insightful career coaches will present on the topic of your choice from the list below. Presentations can be done via Zoom or in-person, aligning with your course delivery format.
This is a great chance for you to help students explore how their degree work contributes to their career readiness. If you must miss a class due to a professional or personal conflict, and you cannot find a faculty member to cover in your absence, these presentations provide a means of showing continued support for undergraduate student success. The Center for Career and Professional Success has a lot to offer students. In this session students will learn about the career coaching service, career communities, and signature programs that they can take advantage of.
It’s not WHAT you know it’s WHO you know and how you TREAT them! This workshop will cover networking tips/techniques to help students get started building their network. Advice specific to nurturing their network over time will also be provided.
Sometimes it’s hard for students to talk about themselves, but when it comes to their resume and cover letter they have to. Have them participate in an interactive presentation where they will leave with knowledge of what employers are looking for and resources they can use to enhance their job search documents. Tips on how to target a specific position in their resume or cover letter will also be shared.
Are your students overwhelmed with the job/internship search? Do they feel lost when it comes to preparing for an interview? If so, this workshop just might be for them! Let us join your class and present on tips about how to search for jobs/internships, prepare for interviews, and how to follow up after the interview. During this session students will develop a personal action plan that capitalizes on their strengths to address hurdles they have faced thus far in their search.

Handshake is the intuitive, easy-to-use job search system available to help all Ohio State students connect with employers, career communities, and explore opportunities.
This workshop describes the core skills that employers and graduate admissions screen for when evaluating college students. Students will learn about their readiness competencies during this workshop. Additionally, students will get the opportunity to set goals on how to strengthen certain skills and capitalize on the readiness competencies they are strongest in.
Master the stressful interview process by learning how to answer tough questions with a relevant story. Students can use the STAR (Situation, Task, Action, Result) method to answer questions like “how do you deal with conflict,” “what’s your favorite course,” "tell about a time you led a team" and more. In this workshop students practice sharing readiness competencies, technical degree knowledge and even job experiences using this STAR formula. Students will have a chance to communicate their skills in this interview style workshop.
